(1) City Employee Military Pay Back Issue

Hello All:

Please reach out and speak to all those who are affected by the City Military Pay Back issue – we need to compare individual figures of income records for pre-deployment, deployment and post deployment years. DCAS doesn’t understand how we could have suffered a hardship or will suffer hardships in the future, among a myriad of other issues. We will not give out anyone’s personal information but we do need to arm our Council members fighting for our cause with as much information and factual information as possible.

If they have any questions or concerns, please call me at 917-533-3399. We would like to speak with the soldiers you’re in contact with in the near future directly to get an idea of their situation and current concerns. Feel free to give out my contact information to the soldiers affected.

Thanks!

(2) City Council Veterans Committee Hearing

The City Council Veterans Committee will be having a hearing on:

December 13, 2006
Time: 10:00 AM
Location: Committee Room – City Hall
Chairperson(s): Hiram Monserrate
Details: Oversight – Homelessness facing New York City Military Veterans
Personal Note: FYI the last City Council hearing on homeless veterans took place on November 28, 2005.

The following link: http://webdocs.nyccouncil.info/attachments/69963.htm?CFID=1475746&CFTOKEN=64562614 will give you the report that was put out at that time. Around that time, CM Monserrate also took a tour of the Borden Avenue Veterans Residence.

It will be interesting to find out what happened with all the testimony that was given last year and what has changed in the way the city handles homeless vets; as well as what the committee is looking to accomplish to better help those veterans who are not only homeless but on the verge of becoming homeless. I urge all to attend this hearing, testify and ask direct questions of this committee. The committee cannot have hearings just for the sake of having hearings and accomplish/change nothing.

Please forward these announcement on to others. Thank you…Joe Bello
