General Information and Tuition for CUNY Graduate Programs
The City University School of Law is the only law school in the nation that has defined its mission, since its inception, as preparing students to become public interest and public service lawyers. The School has received national recognition for its innovative curriculum, the diversity of its students and faculty, and for its clinical program, which is ranked in the top ten in the country.

In addition to taking the traditional mix of legal courses, students at the Law School are introduced in their first year to the practical skills required to be a successful lawyer. In the second year, they choose from a range of lawyering seminars that strengthen skills and knowledge in specific public interest areas. In the third year of the program, students can opt for a field placement in a legal office, or participate in a live-client representation clinical program at Main Street Legal Services Inc., the School’s on-site clinical law office.

Graduates of the Law School are practicing in a wide variety of situations -- staffing Legal Aid and Legal Services offices across New York City and the country, working in District Attorney’s offices across the State, serving judicial clerkships at the state and national level, in government agencies, Wall Street firms, and in small community-based practices serving people who previously had little access to the judicial system.

Many CUNY Law students come from communities underserved by the legal profession and, upon graduation, return to practice within those communities. Through its Community Legal Resource Network initiative, the Law School provides resources and support to those graduates to help them achieve economically and professionally satisfying legal practices in order to increase access to justice.
