    NYC Community News Service

    The best of students’ bylined work will be made available to New York City media outlets on a daily basis through the NYC Community News Service, operated by the Graduate School of Journalism. Many New York neighborhoods do not receive much journalistic attention, and our students, many of whom live in these communities, will bring enthusiasm and local savvy to the task.

    Dean Shepard Outlines the Unique Mission of New School of Journalism

    Dean Stephen Shepard, in the keynote address to the Fourth Annual CUNY Student Media Conference, told more 400 undergraduate students the that new school, opening in Fall 2006, will be “of very high quality.” The school will offer “new media” courses and intensive reporting and writing classes. Standards will be high, said the Dean, the former editor-in-chief of Business Week, who also shared some memories of his years as an student editor and journalist at City College.
