Hostos Goes Electronic on
the Grand Concourse
How busy is the intersection of 149th Street
and Grand Concourse? Extremely: its estimated to be transversed
about 26 million times a year. And from now on, passers-by will
have even more reason to think of Eugenio María de Hostos
Community College than before.
Thanks to Washington Mutual, a national financial services company
that dates back to 1889, an electronic bulletin board has been
installed on the second story of the Colleges Allied Health
Building. Measuring 17 by 8 feet, the board will enliven the busy
intersection and assist the College in spreading news of its programs
and special events to the community.
Accepting the gift, College President Dolores Fernandez said,
Hostos recently entered into a community partnership with
Washington Mutual, and the interaction between our institutions
has been extremely productive. Donna Wilson, a senior vice
president at the firm, said on the occasion of the unveiling that
the project was one of many successful partnerships we hope
to bring to the Bronx.
