N.J. State Human Resources
Executive Comes to CUNY
The Universitys newly-appointed Director
of Human Resource Services Arthur E. Brown, Jr. assumed
his duties early in May. Succeeding Samuel Phillips, who retired,
Brown will be responsible for guiding CUNY recruitment, testing,
classification, staffing, retention, and payroll services. He
was appointed by Vice Chancellor for Faculty and Staff Relations
Brenda Malone.
Brown was most recently the Assistant Commissioner for Operations
at the New Jersey Department of Personnel, where he was responsible
for all areas of human resource management for the State of New
Jersey, supervising a staff of more than 300.
In this position he implemented web-based recruitment, computer-based
testing, and shared services centers.
He also served as the senior human resource executive on a board
charged with acquiring and installing a comprehensive new management
information system. This experience will aid him in planning and
implementing a new CUNY Human Resource Information System. Brown
is the holder of a B.A. in English and psychology and a Masters
in business administration from Rider University.
