Journal for New Teachers Founded at City College

A new journal focusing on the recruitment, training, support, and retention of educators new to the profession—the first of its kind to be published by a CUNY school of education—was recently announced by Dr. Alfred Posamentier, Dean of the City College School of Education.

The appearance of The New Educator: A Journal of Educator Recruitment, Development and Support, says Posamentier, is “a response to the tremendous pressures on school districts across the country” to fill an increasing number of teacher and administrator vacancies “with well-qualified candidates and to ensure that these candidates stay in the classroom.” The New Educator will be published by the international publisher Taylor and Francis.

Posamentier and the journal’s editor, Professor Beverly Falk, have recruited an advisory board of specialists from around the nation and formed an editorial board of CCNY faculty. Among the issues to be addressed in the first volume will be:

lessons from effective teacher-education programs, the first years of teaching, and preparing educators for diverse settings. Authors interested in submitting manuscripts to The New Educator should contact Prof. Falk at bfalk@ccny.cuny.edu.
