How does SIELP prepare students for high school?
The SIELP experience makes students better readers, writers and speakers of English. Students read extensively, discuss and analyze what they read, and learn to write well-organized, effective essays. Students are also guided through the steps of an inquiry project involving Internet research.
Former students, many of whom have graduated from high school and college, return to the Program as mentors and inspirational speakers. The SIELP Program provides a supportive community for its participants, strengthening their transition to high school and helping to ensure their subsequent academic success.
As the written work in students' folders demonstrates, SIELP students express great satisfaction with their studies and enter high school with confidence. To read a student's assessment of his progress in SIELP, click here.
