Eligibility Requirements

ASAP is offered at nine CUNY Colleges (Borough of Manhattan Community College, Bronx Community College, College of Staten Island, Hostos Community College, Kingsborough Community College, LaGuardia Community College, Medgar Evers College, New York City College of Technology and Queensborough Community College).

You may be eligible for ASAP if you answer YES to the following questions:

  • Have you applied and been accepted to a CUNY college that offers ASAP?
  • Are you eligible for New York City resident tuition (at the community colleges) or New York State resident tuition (at all other colleges)? (as per the CUNY tuition and fees manual)
  • Do you agree to enter into a full-time associate degree program (minimum of 12 credits per semester) in an ASAP-approved major? (Most majors qualify! Click here to learn more.)
  • Are you fully skills proficient or have no more than two outstanding developmental course needs in reading, writing, and math based on CUNY Assessment Test scores?*
  • If you are a continuing or transfer student, do you have no more than 15 college credits and a minimum GPA of 2.0?

How To Become an ASAP Student

For First-time Freshman and Transfer Students

*STEP 1: Apply to a CUNY college that offers ASAP. (Borough of Manhattan Community College, Bronx Community College, Hostos Community College, Kingsborough Community College, LaGuardia Community College, Queensborough Community CollegeMedgar Evers College, New York City College of Technology and College of Staten Island.)

STEP 2: Complete the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) and the New York State Tuition Assistance Program (TAP) application. (Students not in receipt of financial aid but otherwise eligible may join ASAP but may not receive a tuition waiver.)

STEP 3: Accept your offer of admission to the CUNY college at which you applied and complete all admissions requirements, including the CUNY Assessment Tests, if necessary.

STEP 4:  Contact the ASAP office on your campus for next steps.

 

For Continuing CUNY Students

STEP 1: Check your college’s ASAP website for information about eligible majors and any college-specific requirements.

STEP 2: Complete the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) and the New York State Tuition Assistance Program (TAP) application. (Students not in receipt of financial aid but otherwise eligible may join ASAP but may not receive a tuition waiver.)

STEP 3: Contact the ASAP office on your campus for next steps.

IMPORTANT NOTE: Students may not participate in both SEEK/College Discovery and ASAP.

 

*Students with two remedial/developmental course needs at time of application must attempt at least one of their required courses in the summer or winter before program entry. Visit your college’s ASAP website to learn about any college-specific requirements.
