I attend Bronx Community College (BCC) and major in Business Administration with a Management option. When I first came to college I was looking for the best program to support my needs. I received an email from ASAP listing the benefits of the program and extending an invitation to an orientation. After the orientation I knew that this was exactly what I needed to succeed and graduate as soon as possible, so I joined the program! The advisors there are a valuable resource. Personally, my advisor has been a blessing, helping me choose my classes and telling me what scholarships to apply for. She also keeps me up to date about deadlines for financial aid and other academic issues. I would recommend the ASAP program to anyone who is serious about their education.
I graduated from high school with my diploma, however, I didn’t go straight to college. I took seven years off from school, working and trying to find myself. During that time I became a father and a manager of a corporation. So, when it was time for me to blend into the college life, I found it easy to adapt to a community college. I chose a community college because it was convenient for me and my family, closer to my home, and affordable.
Through the ASAP program I was able to get a job as peer mentor. Since ASAP relieves the financial stress that most college students go through, I have time to focus on my studies and extra-curricular activities. I am now the president of the BCC Student Government Association, helping other students navigate the college experience.
