As part of the naturalization interview the USCIS officer will test you on your ability to understand and communicate in English and your civics knowledge. Certain long time green card holders and older residents qualify for an exemption or waiver. The English test has three parts: reading, writing, and speaking. The USCIS Officer will ask you to read up to three sentences in English, to write up to three sentences in English that have been read aloud to you and will test your civic knowledge with questions that cover important U.S. history and government topics.
