More about Heidi Latsky Dance

2018-19 | The City College of New York

Heidi Latsky Dance (HLD) was founded in 2001. Its mission is to redefine beauty and virtuosity through performance and discourse, using performers with unique attributes to bring rigorous, passionate and provocative dance to diverse audiences. HLD has received numerous awards, commissions and residencies, and has toured internationally. Since 2006 the company has incorporated performers with disabilities. GIMP (2008-2012) garnered praise for its investigation of inclusion: Dance Magazine called it a milestone in contemporary dance and a news feature was nominated for an Emmy. In 2014, Latsky was invited to create her first film Soliloquy for “Dance for Film On Location at Montclair State University”. Soliloquy has screened internationally including Festival de Marseille and Dance on Camera. HLD conducts workshops, inclusive technique classes and was the recipient for two years of a NYC Department of Education grant, working with  Millenium High School, Manhattan School for Children, and Ideal School and Victory Dance.

ON DISPLAY, HLD’s work since 2015 when the Mayor’s Office invited HLD to participate in the 25th Anniversary of the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA), is now a global phenomenon. It has been presented at venues including the Whitney Museum; High Line; Lincoln Center; Stavros Niarchos, Greece; ADF; Superfine! and at SY Partners for NYCxDesign Week. ON DISPLAY GLOBAL is an annual event for International Day of Persons with Disabilities at the UN and NYU in NYC and at over 40 cities worldwide. Begun during a residency at Hurleyville Arts Centre in 2017, D.I.S.P.L.A.Y.E.D was created and premiered in March in 2018 at Baruch Performing Arts Center in NYC.
