Kinesis Project Dance Theatre is a collaborative dance organization directed by choreographer Melissa Riker. The innovative, six-dancer, New York City based dance company creates large scale, space-changing, breath-taking experiences.

Riker is a New York City dancer and choreographer who emerged as a strong performance and creative voice as the NYC dance and circus worlds combined during the 90’s. Her dances and aesthetic layer her training as a classical dancer, martial artist, theatre choreographer and aerial performer.

Via physical and interdisciplinary collaboration, Kinesis Project unravels idiosyncratic moments of life and pushes boundaries of what changes space, and people, by placing movement and stillness in unusual and inspiring places. Called a “moveable feast in more ways than one…” by Eva Yaa Asantewaa and “comically acrobatic, gracefully classical, visually arresting.” by Laurie Graeber of The New York Times, Kinesis Project invites audiences to explore the possibility of high-art in public spaces. The company has performed in many indoor and outdoor venues in NYC and their work has been seen in Boston, San Francisco, Philadelphia, Vermont, Colorado and Florida. Kinesis Project is a 2015 recipient of LMCC’s Manhattan Creative Communities Grant and a 2016 CUNY Dance Initiative Residency Artist.
