The Mariela Franganillo Dance Company, led by choreographer and dancer Mariela Franganillo, creates multi-disciplinary works that fuse traditional and contemporary Argentine tango with visual elements to tell richly emotional stories. The company’s eight dancers have performed in such productions as Forever Tango, Tango X2, and Tango Fire.
The company’s musicians perform independently as the Tango Connection Ensemble, directed by Gustavo Casenave. Alongside these musicians, the company includes a tango singer. The Company’s performance highlights include the Fall For Dance Festival at New York City Center; Queens Theatre in the Park, Giordano Jazz Dance Chicago, and the St. Peterburg Ballet; and the Peter Norton Symphony Space, sponsored by the World Music Institute. Their most recent work, Recuerdo Tango, premiered in 2013 at The Michael Schimmel Center for the Arts as part of the Pace Presents Series.
