More about Matychak

2015 | Brooklyn College

Founded in 2011, Matychak is a project-based contemporary modern dance company that exists to bridge the divide between the uptown and downtown modern dance worlds as seen through the eyes of artistic director, Nathalie Matychak.

Since Matychak’s premiere at Webster Hall in 2011, the company has gone on to perform work at Joe’s Pub, The Jane Hotel, The Joyce Theater’s DANY Studios, Dixon Place, Symphony Space, The 92nd Street Y, Peridance’s Salvatore Capezio Theater and The Martha Graham Studio Theater at Westbeth as well as participate in collaborations with film production company NextRound Productions, hip-hop/soul band Aabaraki and visual artist Alisa Nadolishny. In 2013, Matychak joined ELSCO Dance in co-founding the pilot program for Breaking Glass: The Emerging Female Choreographers Project to provide a comprehensive multi-part platform for emerging female choreographers of all dance genres. At Brooklyn College, Matychak will begin working on their second evening length work, The Body Keeps the Score. Taken from the choreographer’s personal journey in dancing with chronic illness, The Body Keeps the Score is a vulnerable, yet non-apologetic exploration of how limitation can be our best asset.
