stringdance+media creates art pieces, videos and performances that investigate the human condition through varied references and diverse formal approaches. Balletic and flamenco-inspired contemporary dances, narrative threads, and vividly costumed figures inhabiting decorated spaces or beautiful natural surroundings are united in videos, photographs and dance-theater pieces. stringdance+media was founded in 2001 by Christy Walsh as a vehicle for her film and choreography projects.
stringdance has performed in conventional venues and specific sites in New York, New Jersey, Pennsylvania, Texas, Virginia and Korea. These include an evening-length work at Green Space in Queens and site-specific pieces presented by FIGMENT and Chashama. stringmedia films have been exhibited in Denmark, Sweden, Portugal, China, South Africa, Australia, and the United States. Walsh participated in the “Dance for Camera” residency at MASS Moca in 1999, and has benefited from choreographic residencies with New Jersey Peak Arts Center, Southwest Virginia Ballet, the Bedford-Stuyvesant Restoration Corporation, and Salvatore LaRussa Dance Academy.
