Honors College

Since 1847, The City University of New York has provided a path to success for generations of New Yorkers. In this rich tradition, CUNY launched its first separate honors college in 2001 to provide a globally competitive program for the most talented and academically gifted of New York’s students.

The college was designed in collaboration with the University’s senior colleges to offer exceptional advising, hands-on internships and research opportunities, global learning opportunities, and a commitment to provide the skills and experiences for each student to excel in college and beyond.

In 2006, the college was designated the William E. Macaulay Honors College after a generous gift from City College honors alumnus Bill Macaulay ’66 and his wife, Linda. Their support allowed Macaulay Honors College to move into its own facility, a Gothic revival structure at 35 West 67th Street formerly known as the Steinhardt Building.

The Honors College has grown from an inaugural class of 189 to a current student body of over 2,000 students.
