Dear Members of the Hostos Community,
It is with great pleasure that I announce the appointment of Dr. David Gomez as Interim President of Hostos Community College.
Dr. Gomez has served with great distinction as a senior administrator at Kingsborough Community College for more than twenty-five years, where his most recent position was Interim Vice President for Academic Affairs and Provost. Previously, he served as Vice President for Academic Administration, Program Planning and Development. Dr. Gomez also spent more than a decade working in senior positions at Hostos Community College. He served as Dean of the College, Interim Dean of Academic Affairs, Associate Dean and Special Assistant to the President for Management and Planning. He has substantial familiarity with the campus and the community, both as a Bronx resident and an administrator and supporter of the College.
Dr. Gomez brings extensive skills and experience as an administrator and academic leader to this important leadership post. He holds a B.A. in English Literature from SUNY Albany, an M.A. and an Ed.D in Higher and Adult Education from Columbia Teachers College. He has proven himself to be a thoughtful academic administrator and dedicated member of the CUNY community. I am confident he will be a valuable leader of Hostos during this period.
Chairperson Benno Schmidt announced the formation of a search committee for the next president of Hostos Community College. The committee will be chaired by Board Vice-Chairperson Philip Alfonso Berry, and will include trustees, a college president, and representatives of the Hostos Community College constituencies, consistent with Board search guidelines. The search committee will begin its work in the fall.
Please join me in extending warmest congratulations to Interim President Gomez and in welcoming him back to Hostos Community College.
Best regards,
James B. Milliken
