February 3, 2016 | Members, Opportunities

Due to the recent snow storm, there are new dates for 2015 Youth Count event for homeless and unstably housed youth.

This February, from Tuesday, February 9 through Friday, February 12, the NYC Department of Youth and Community Development, runaway and homeless youth providers, and other youth-serving programs will be conducting a count of homeless and unstably housed youth to inform planning for young adults.

Volunteers will help conduct the count at several satellite locations, including libraries and other programs in the community. Volunteers will conduct brief surveys with young adults (up to age 24) who attend the location during the dates of the count. The surveys include questions about demographic characteristics and housing situations of the youth.

Count sites are located in all five boroughs. Volunteers can participate for as a little as a few hours or can participate all week! Volunteer hours are available throughout the day, including evenings. Training materials will be sent to all volunteers in advance of their participation.

Volunteers should:

  • have experience working with youth and/or vulnerable populations.
  • feel comfortable interacting with youth.
  • be respectful of survey participants’ confidentiality.
  • be able to complete an electronic survey on a tablet.

To volunteer, please sign up through this link. If you have any questions about the Youth Count, please contact Jessica Raithel at jraithel@cidi.nyc.gov.
