free speech zone arrow brevity encouragedWe’re grateful to the Web Services team in the CUNY Office of Communication and Marketing that helped us to migrate our blog content to a new server, with a new look!

As we start this semester, we take a moment to recognize our colleagues at another long-established institution of public higher education, the University of Virginia, who have started classes this fall under the shadow of the tragic events in Charlottesville.

The UFS Executive Committee wishes to extend our sympathies to the families of Heather Heyer and other activists wounded and menaced during last week’s demonstrations. UFS members have long affirmed their belief in academic freedom and free speech. No less, however, do we affirm our deep respect and concern for equal access to education, non-violence, and diversity. Students and faculty of the City University of New York come from every corner of the world, and every religious and ethnic background. Some of us are just beginning our academic careers; some of us have been around for a really long time.

Wherever you may fit in that spectrum, please know that all faculty voices are welcome here.

The UFS Blog is a forum for CUNY Faculty, and welcomes the expression of all points of view. Posts may be sent to the editor at etai@qcc.cuny.edu
